Biography

Alex Menter, MD is a board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist with over two decades of experience delivering compassionate, evidence-based cancer care. A Colorado native, Dr. Menter began his academic journey at Saint Olaf College in Minnesota before returning home to earn his medical degree from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. He completed his internship, residency, and fellowship training at the University of Colorado, laying the foundation for a career dedicated to advancing cancer treatment and improving patient outcomes. 

Dr. Menter joined the Colorado Permanente Medical Group in 2006, where he has served in numerous leadership roles, including Regional Specialty Chief for Medical Oncology and Director of the Excellence in Cancer Care Council. Throughout his tenure, he has led the oncology clinical trials program, championed quality and value initiatives, and helped shape regional strategies for cancer care delivery. His commitment to clinical excellence was recognized in 2018 when he was named a 5280 Magazine Top Doctor.

With a strong interest in health services research, Dr. Menter has co-authored more than a dozen peer-reviewed publications on topics ranging from comparative effectiveness of cancer therapeutics to patient-reported outcomes and cost-effectiveness in oncology. His work has appeared in leading journals such as The Lancet Oncology, Clinical Cancer Research, and JCO Clinical Cancer Informatics. He has also served as a principal investigator on numerous clinical trials and contributed to national research collaborations focused on improving real-world cancer care. 

Dr. Menter is a longstanding member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the Rocky Mountain Oncology Society, where he previously served as president. He is joining the Shaw Cancer Center a deep commitment to personalized care, innovation, and collaboration. Whether mentoring colleagues, leading system-wide initiatives, or guiding patients through their treatment journey, Dr. Menter remains grounded in the belief that excellence in cancer care begins with listening, learning, and leading with purpose.
