Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Palliative care can be provided while a patient receives treatment for cancer. Palliative care is offered at time of diagnosis, regardless of prognosis, and seeks to reduce symptoms, distress and hospitalizations while improving quality of life. Hospice is offered when a patient is known to be approaching end of life, typically within six months, and seeks to provide comfort during the dying process.
Most insurance carriers cover palliative care, and the Shaw at Home team will work closely with your insurance carrier to verify coverage and benefits. If you are not insured, or if you have concerns about financial eligibility for Shaw at Home, our palliative care social workers can help find resources so you receive the help you need.
Talk to your Shaw oncologist, infusion nurse, social worker, nurse practitioner or nurse navigator, or call Shaw at Home directly at (970) 569-7622.
*Our current service area is limited to the Eagle River Valley (I-70 corridor from East Vail to Dotsero), though our intent is to expand our services in the future to all. All patients have access to palliative services via tele-health for enhanced symptom management.
